History & Images from the area

For many of us, we accept Thurgoland and Crane Moor as just the villages we live in. Yet this Parish is steeped in History dating back to the Saxon Times. Indeed Turgesland (the Saxon Name) was once valued at 20/- !!

Every month we will be adding photos from around the parish (both past & present) along with stories and interesting facts. If anyone has anything which they would like to see featured, please submit these to the Parish Clerk.

The pictures that you see here already were kindly submitted by Maurice Williams and our thanks to him are expressed. Maurice is hoping to form a Local History Group and is currently compiling a book on the history of Thurgoland and it is hoped that in future, extracts may be able to be published here for all to share.

A local History Society has now been formed and their first meeting will be held on the 16th September 2004 at 7:30pm at Thurgoland Village Hall.
