Your Parish Councillors
• Berry, Mavis
Councillor Berry lives at Churchfield and is involved in Thurgoland Pre-School, being a Trustee for the building. She is also involved in the projects to restore the pumps and wells in the Parish. She has been a Parish Councillor since 1997.
• Blyth, Robert (Chairman)
Councillor Blythe was brought up in Stocksbridge and educated at Penistone Grammar School. His wife Ann and two daughters moved to Thurgoland in 1980, Ann having been born and bred in Thurgoland. He trained as a cost accountant before moving into local Government, where he served forty years in five authorities. He was Town Clerk to Penistone Town Council and Assistant Town Clerk to Barnsley MBC until retirement in 2004. Councillor Blythe joined the Parish Council in 2005 and became Chairman in May 2006. He is the Parish Councillor representative on the Penistone East Crime and Safety Sub Group and sits on the Leisure and Amenities Committee of Penistone Town Council.
• Cuerden, Carol
Councillor Cuerden lives at Crane Moor Nook and moved to the area in 2006 after living abroad for twelve years. She works as a Control Officer at Barnsley Magistrates Court and became a Councillor in June 2007. Her reasons for becoming a Parish Councillor were to give something back to the area and to help keep the rural aspect of the Parish intact.
• Hamblen, Ann
Councillor Hamblen has lived in Crane Moor for twelve years and is a writer and creative writing teacher. She is involved in the regeneration of Crane Moor via the Crane Moor Community
• Methley, Joan (Vice Chairman)
Councillor Methley lives at Fir Tree and has been a Parish Councillor since 1995. She was a Special Constable for thirty two years and has lived in Thurgoland all her life. Councillor Methley is actively involved in many community projects in the Parish, most notably Thurgoland Thespians and The Tuesday Group. She is also one of the Parish Council representatives on Penistone Rural Road Safety Committee.
• Oxley, Sylvia
Councillor Oxley has lived in Thurgoland all of her life and was the Warden for Churchfields (where she lives) until recently. She became a Parish Councillor in 1998 and represents the residents of Churchfields as well as being one of the Parish Council representatives on Penistone Rural Road Safety Committee. She campaigns regularly improvements to the roads in the Parish.
• Rowley, Ann
Councillor Rowley lives at Crane Moor Nook and is the Parish Paths representative, organising the annual Boundary Walk and bringing matters concerning public footpaths to the attention of the Parish Council. She has lived in the Parish for thirty three years and works part-time at Wortley Post Office. Councillor Rowley became a Parish Councillor in 1997.
• Warttig, Richard
Councillor Warttig is a local businessman who has lived in the area all of his life. During his working life he has sat on numerous committees and he joined the Parish Council in May 2006.
• Wilkinson, Gordon
Councillor Wilkinson has resided at Huthwaite for forty seven years and was employed in Local Government as a surveyor until his retirement. He has completed over twenty five years as a Magistrate, sitting on the Barnsley Bench, being Bench Chairman for many years. He became a Parish Councillor in May 2005.
