Crane Moor
Crane Moor is a village of a few hundred inhabitants about 1 mile east of Thurgoland village centre on the edge of Thurgoland Parish. In times past it was a mining village with several local coal workings and had several shops, a school, five (!) pubs, two methodist chapels and several local farms. Today it is predominantly a residential area, still surrounded by several farms but only the Rose Pub still survives as the Working Men's Club. There is a well kept recreational area with swings etc for the children.
There is a regular bus service (No. 24) to Barnsley and Penistone and the nearest station is Silkstone Common on the Penistone line. It is easy to reach the M1 motorway at Junction 36 or at Junction 35A for southbound traffic only.
